World's Largest Thermometer
Baker, California
The World's Largest Thermometer rises out of the desert, reminding travelers that they have air conditioning for a reason.
Located between Barstow and Las Vegas, the world's tallest thermometer displays the outside temperature. Normally, this is a fairly temperate reading, but the Thermometer is located next to one of the hottest places in North America, which ended up informing part of the design of the thing.
It is 134 feet high, the same number as the highest air temperature ever recorded in Death Valley, measured in 1934.
